Authentic Learning
March 29, 2012
I was a little confused with today's lecture on authentic learning, paritcularly with the academic philosophy of learning verses the authentic philosophy of learning. I could see how both were effective and wondered why teaching had to lean explicitily towards one or the other. I wondered how, as an educator, I would be able to support the curriculum using many authentic learning strategies. I decided to look through the ACARA website for answers and was at a loss to find resources for teachers to use in the classroom; in fact I was disappointed to discover that the updating of ACARA was still a work in progress and there were still no guidelines for assessment on this web site. I perservered and discovered a wonderful web site called Educause. Educause have posted a fantastic document in pdf. form outlining what constitutes authentic learning and how technology supports effective authentic learning experiences. I found this document very informative. I am a lot less confused now and my mind has begun to spin with ideas. I have provided a link to this document, please read it, you will learn something.
